Thomas Gayzur was admitted to HHH following a bypass and aortic valve replacement, which resulted in multiple strokes, sepsis and other complications. He was unable to move, eat, perform self-care tasks or stay awake for more than 30 minutes at a time. But not only did Tom thrive in the face of overwhelming odds and overcome challenging setbacks, he walked out of the hospital on his own just four months after his admission.
For his incredible achievements, Tom was presented with the hospital’s highest award, The Spirit of Achievement Award, at the 118th Helen Hayes Hospital Honors Assembly on September 20, 2018.
